Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Since Grady's been playing tournament ball this Fall and Spring and Cole started 5U T-ball, we've played a lot of baseball- would've been even more if the weather would've cooperated.  Good thing they love it and we we LOVE watching them play!
Grady plays for the Corinth 9U Crushers.  He's made some good friends and really loves the game.  He's a very good pitcher and floats around to first, third and second when he's not pitching.

He's always been a good hitter, even though when you hit 9U in our area it's kid pitch for the first time... and there are walks... leading off... and stealing.  Talk about a change from 8U where everybody is a rockstar hitter!  It's a transition for sure.

The thing I like most about watching him play is his lack of nervousness, especially being a pitcher.  I'm nervous enough watching him though for the both of us I think!
This spring was a first.  We traveled out of state to Oklahoma for a weekend tournament.  There was lots of rain, which delayed our play some but the boys played very well.  We made it to the semi finals and barely lost to the team who won it all!

As expected, lots of fun was had in the hotel as well.  Shenanigans, laughter, scary woman, repeat!

We caught a movie while between games!

There was a breakfast buffet and the kids thought they'd died and gone to heaven! Chocolate chip waffles every morning...

Mimi and Papa came for a weekend of baseball too, on Mother's Day!
They got to see both Cole and Grady play!

The boys have loved having Daddy as a coach!  I've seen another side to coaching being married to one... the countless hours that parents volunteer to help out is just amazing!  Before you complain, volunteer!  Ha!
Richard is Cole's T-ball coach.  He's got some wonderful assistants and they work really hard- ha!  4 and 5 year olds have LOTS of energy!  My official title is dug-out mom but I think of it more like dug-out police!
He looks so big!

Game ball for our little T-baller!
Sports have taught my kids so much.  How to win and lose gracefully, how to take turns, how to be a good sport, how to tone down or amp up that fiercely competitive (Grady :-)) nature, how to listen and follow directions, how to be part of a team, how to work hard and have fun, how to get along with people and be part of a group that weren't your friends to start with, how to not be the best and to strive to be better, how to put in countless hours perfecting your craft, how to cheer and encourage the  underdog and how to never give up even when it seems like there's no way to win.
It makes us happy to see them happy and doing something they love.  Sure, we love to win, but there's so much more.
I mean, those tough faces and then these smiles... full of joy!

Snow cones or ice cream after a tough loss always helps too!
A team wins and loses together but also has fun together!  The kids got on the Jumbotron at a Rough Riders night.  So cool!
Cole's end of season party was a huge success as well!  These precious t-ballers were so cute and learned so much this season!
Pizza and playground... What could be a better way to celebrate?!?
Grady's season continues through July (talk about hot) and I'm not real sure what next season holds, but I do know that my boys love baseball and mom and dad, win or lose, are their biggest fans!
