Happy 4 1/2 Birthday Grady... What?!?!

So my little Grady-Goose you are 4 1/2 years old now!  I can't believe you are so big.  It feels like I just was pregnant with you... time really flies when you are having fun.  A bunch has changed in the last 6 months buddy!

The biggest news is that you are a big brother now!  Cole was born just after you turned four and boy do you LOVE him.  You have showed no aggression towards him... unless you count hugging and kissing too hard.  :)  You are a great helper with Cole and are constantly wanting to help, especially when it comes to cheering him up if he gets a little fussy,  You shake toys at him and talk to him in silly voices.  You sing him made up songs that always include "I love you Coley" - your nickname for Cole.  This melts mommy's heart.  You also want to give him hugs and kisses every night and buy him toys at the store.  You often talk about how you will play with him when he gets older.  I pray you are best friends someday.

Another big thing is that you have been going to sports camp this summer, once a week.  You ask me everyday if it's sports camp day... you LOVE it!  You also do a great job with listening to the coach and following directions.  You are one of the older ones so you pick up the skills pretty quickly.  I have a feeling you'll be pretty good at T-ball this fall!  You and Brody will be on the same team and you are just thrilled about that!  You like all sports, especially baseball.  Obsessed is more like it.  You love the Rangers and know the players, their numbers and positions.

In July you went to your first week of VBS at church.  Again, you loved it!  No crying when I left you.  In fact, you cried when I picked you up the first day because I was one of the first mommy's there and you didn't want to leave all the fun.  This made your teacher so happy!  Mommy on the other hand... not so much!  :)  Just kidding.  I love that you are so friendly, outgoing and gregarious!  I hope you always have this quality.  You have been singing Jesus Loves Me and Waves of Mercy ever since...

You went to the Dentist for the first time this summer.  He said your teeth looked great.  You thought it was really cool that you got to see the x-rays of your "big-boy" teeth under the skin.  You had no cavities - wahoo!  Let's keep that up!!!

You have really gotten good at writing your letters, and now want to make art projects and write people's names on top.  You can spell and write your name well.  The "G" is kinda tricky though.  You can count to 12 easily and sometimes can go to 20.  Thirteen and fourteen trip you up!  You have memorized the dots on the dice and love to play dice games.  Speaking of games, you are really good at Memory, Candyland, Hi Ho Cherry-o, and Hungry Hungry Hippos.  You are also great at puzzles and building things with blocks.  You love books and have started "reading" whatever words you have memorized and think match the pictures.  I LOVE this!!!  We still read every night before bed.  Honestly, I could read to you all day and you wouldn't mind.  You also like computer games, your Leapster and the Wii.

Your favorite colors are blue and orange.  Favorite food is still pizza and salad.  You have many favorite movies - Tangled. Kung-Fu Panda 2, Lion King and Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs are just a few.  Speaking of dinosaurs.... you LOVE them!  You know their names, and facts about them.  You want to check dino books out of the library every time we go.  You know more than most any child, or adult for that matter.  You tell everyone you want to be a Paleontologist when you grow up!

You love to swim.  You had a few swim lessons this summer and you did great!  You can swim across the pool, turn somersaults, dive for diving toys and touch the bottom.  You are pretty good at floating too.  Breathing while swimming is still a challenge.  Your teacher seems to think you are doing all you can do for a kiddo your age.  If it wasn't so super hot (like 110 degrees) we'd be at the pool everyday.  It's just too hot for Cole.  We did spend the first half of the summer there though.  :)

Grady, you are pretty well behaved.  You have lots of energy and then some, but I hear that most 4 year old boys are this way.  Mrs. Stephie, your babysitter the past few years says you are very ready for Pre-Kindergarten and will do wonderful.  I know she is right!  She tells us that you are very smart, polite, well-mannered and respectful and full of LOTS of spunk.  We see some of this at home too, but it sounds like you are like every other kid on Earth and are much better behaved at school.  I am so glad.  You are very strong willed, competitive and determined.  You also really like to get your way... who doesn't?!?  These are all wonderful traits (most of the time) and in the long run I am so glad you are this way... I wonder where you get this from?  Ha!  This does however create a bit of a power-struggle sometimes!  You are also very loving, kind and thoughtful.  You have such a big heart.  You still love to snuggle mom and dad!  You love your friends and you also sometimes love to boss them around.  Usually you end up working it out a few minutes later though!  You are going to start Pre-K at Lillie Jackson in a few weeks.  I have mixed feelings on this... you will LOVE it but are just growing up way to fast for me!!!

Grady, you are the very best boy a mommy and daddy could ever ask for.  You are sweet and smart and wild and will do big things in life!  You are my best "big" boy!!!
Love,
Mommy and Daddy

  1. He is adorable! And he is so lucky to have you for his mommy. I love that you celebrate his half yearly birthdays and have a record of what life is like with him right now. So cool!
