Cole Merritt is Two and a Half!

Dear Cole,

Today you are halfway to being a three year old!  You have changed so much in the last 6 months, it's hard to imagine you made us a family of four 2 1/2 years ago.

We call you Cole Monster, Coley, and Cole Merritt.  You came into this world calmly, and you are living it just the opposite these days!  You are truly going through the "terrible twos" but at the same time are so sweet, funny and loving.

You play really well independently, although you love playing with Grady and your friends at Stephie's house.  (Drew, Colton, Dex, Ella, and Baby Evan) You also chase the big kids aroundon the  playground and yell at them, "My name's Cole!"    You share very well for a 2 yo, as long as it's not your favorite Lightning McQueen.  You can be stubborn, and will pitch a full blown fit if we want you to do something you don't want to do.  In your defense, because you are number two, you get drug around everywhere past your naptime/bedtime... hence the crankiness and tantrums.

You talk really pretty well now.  Your favorite things to say are:
- I "non't" like it
- Non't touch it
- It's disgusting
- No Gwady
- I did it!
- Steady, weady, Go!
- I-nya big boy
- I pooped
- Wuv you
- See you tomorrow
(You keep us laughing!)

You also have VERY good manners for a 2 yo!  You say pwease, tank you and u welcome without prompting.

You have finally started occasionally smiling for the camera and saying "cheese" and then request to see the picture.

You liked the pool this summer, but only the steps.  I'd say you don't love it.  We'll see how next year goes.

Recently you will tell us you are scared and "it's dark"... You seem a little more timid in general than your brother was at this age.

You are a pretty picky eater.  You do like:  chips, cookies, crackers, croutons,  bread, cake, cereal with milk, milk, yogurt, cheese, all fruit, popcorn, olives, chicken (sometimes), ice cream, green beans, fries, nuggets, eggs, bacon, fruit bars, sausage, pancakes, muffins and any other breakfast food.  Basically anything processed or unhealthy... We keep giving you healthy choices and good vitamins and pray that someday you will enjoy eating a larger variety of healthy foods again.  You always eat a good breakfast and want snacks all day long.  You rarely eat a good dinner.

You love sports and balls, playgrounds, running, trains, puzzles, and CARS and trucks.  Your favorite movie is Cars and you saw Planes this summer and loved it as well.  You still like Elmo, and most any cartoon on Disney.  You LOVE to be read to and memorize specific lines out of books.  You pretend to read books often.

You love your brother and want to do everything he does.  You also fight and scream at him, but we just laugh because it's usually for no reason.  You even yell "No Gwady" when he's not even touching you.

You are tough as nails!  You rarely cry due to being hurt.  People often comment on your toughness and getting right back up after falling and scraping your knees... which is constant.

You weigh 32 pounds, but I have no idea how tall you are.  You keep getting taller and skinnier because you never stop moving!

You wear a size 3T clothes and size 9 shoes.  You don't seem to care what you wear.  You wear a size 5 diapers.

You take a 2-3 hour afternoon nap still and sleep from 7:45-7:00ish.  You moved from a crib to a big boy bed this summer and it was a very easy adjustment.

You will pee in the potty on command, and announce the second you poop... I'm thinking potty training isn't far off.

You are a lover!  You give good hugs and kisses and tell us you wuv us.  You ask to " rocky-roo" when you are tired and want us both to lay down with you at bedtime.  You still suck your thumb, and love your "b's".  You usually sleep with a couple of cars and a pile of stuffed animals.

You've outgrown the slight eczema (we think) you had when you were younger although you take Zyrtec and we still use Cetaphyl.

Coley, you are just the most fun.  You are happiest in the mornings and I can't wait to hear your little feet running down the hallway and your "Good morning mommy and daddy" and then your plea to play on the iPad or jump on the bed.

We love you sweet boy!

Yellowstone 2013

So this is a little late but "better late than never"... or something like that!

We decided to go back to Yellowstone after some begging on Grady's end even though we had just been the year before.  We are so glad we did.  I mean if you're that close to Yellowstone, why not?!?

We loaded up in Mimi and Papa's new mini van (which PS was awesome... seriously, for road trips) and headed out early in the morning.

On the way we saw quite a few pronghorn antelope just running wild along the side of the road. So cool!  We checked into our hotel and drove up through the south entrance to the park.  This place is just awesome.  We saw so many animals over the next two days - elk, moose, beaver, bison, bear, bald eagle, dear.  The only major one we didn't see were the wolves.  Apparently they don't like the heat and you are more likely to see them in the Winter/Spring.   One day!

A huge bull elk seriously walked right out in front of the van and we had to stop to let it pass.  It was huge... these pictures don't do it justice!

We also saw a cow elk and her baby... which is hard to see in this picture.  :)

Another not-so-great-picture of a mother moose and her baby eating on the edge of a pond.  Grady was really excited to see the moose.  They are much more rare to see than the elk.
While we were waiting to get a better glimpse of the moose and her baby Grady looked down and literally at our feet was this beaver - ha!
One of my favorite memories from last year was seeing all the bison... and right up close and personal.  They did not disappoint this year!  We saw tons of bison and they were feeling rather frisky this year, running around and stirring up the dirt.
See Grady's awesome shirt... yep, Mimi bought it for him.  It is so "special" we only wear it at home so it doesn't get damaged.  You might be wondering what other animals are covering the front... a bear, bald eagle, mountain lion, and wolf.  You too, can buy this shirt in Jackson Hole.

This is a picture of a bald eagle.  He was eating a fish and then took off and flew across the sky.

Beautiful views all throughout the park!

On our last afternoon there Papa just happened to see a black bear just off the road.  It was younger and was running, fast!
I wish  I had taken more pictures, but we were really enjoying the scenery and spending lots of time together.  It was a great trip!  Thanks Mimi and Papa!!!

Labor Day Weekend

We kicked off our Labor Day weekend fun by having dinner with the Vaughn Family!  It was super fun catching up and sharing "interesting" back to school stories...  Our kiddos miss each other!  (Note to Michelle- sleepover must happen soon!)
Saturday morning Richard and Grady went to the batting cages to work on some hitting with Justin and Bro.  Saturday night the boys had lots of fun sweating at the Rangers game...

It was a win-win for all!!

Sunday we visited Cabela's... The boys hadn't been in a while and it's every little boys favorite place... well, big boys too!

I have about 14 pictures of the back of Cole's head, or blurred body... for those of you who think - Where are the pictures of sweet Cole?  One day, you will see Cole again!  Ha!

This laying still lasted 2.4 seconds... and they were up again!  This cracks me up though.  I envision a boys only camping trip with this bunk bed style cot... and lots of shenanigans!

After Cabela's we made a stop at our favorite hamburger place... Twisted Root!  Absolutely delish!  Burgers and milkshakes are the best way to celebrate a great first week of school if you ask me!
Monday we finally were blessed with lots of rain... which got me in a crafty mood and after a trip to Hobby Lobby and a hour of work - voila!  It's even prettier in person!

If I hang up the fall wreath do you think the cooler weather will come?!?
